SOF 2021, the first taste of Paris 2024
mardi 8 septembre 2020
When the 2020 SOF was e-sailed last April because of the impact of Covid-19 in France and around the world, the organizing committee is preparing an ambitious 2021 SOF.
The 2020 Olympic Games being postponed in August 2021 and having Paris 2024 in view, SOF 2021 will offer the first mixed 2021 / 2024 major international event.
The event will be open to 15 classes:
the 10 existing classes sailing at the Olympics in 2021 and the 5
new classes which will sail at the 2024 Olympics. It will be the
only event like this in the world; it will propose 4 mixed classes,
5 female classes and 6 male classes.
Ed Russo, FFVoile treasurer, in charge of the event for
the FFVoile:
« Many events were postponed because of the health crisis
which affects the whole world, and especially the most important of
them, the 2020 Olympic Games which is postponed to summer
2021.
We at the SOF organising committee have decided to turn this
special situation to an advantage. The event will be open to the 10
classes selected for Tokyo in 2021 for all the sailors who are
preparing to participate to Olympic Games.
In addition, as Paris 2024 Olympics is fast approaching, we
will also open the event to the 5 new Olympic classes. We will have
mixed kiteboard, mixed 470, the offshore double-handed mixed, and
the female and men windfoil.
If the health situation permits it, the 53rd SOF will be one
of the most beautiful ever. »
